Discover Restaurant Poseidon

Walking into Restaurant Poseidon feels a bit like stepping off a busy Munich street and into a familiar Mediterranean rhythm. Tucked away at Leonrodstraße 85, 80636 München, Germany, this place has been quietly doing its thing for years, and that consistency shows the moment you sit down. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, sometimes for a relaxed family dinner, other times after work when I just wanted something comforting, filling, and honest.

The menu leans confidently into classic Greek cuisine, and that’s where Poseidon really shines. You’ll see staples like grilled calamari, moussaka, souvlaki, and fresh salads built around feta, olives, and olive oil. What stands out isn’t innovation for the sake of it, but execution. The grilled meats come out juicy, the seafood is properly seasoned, and portions are generous without feeling overdone. During one visit, I watched a server explain the daily fish options to a couple at the next table, describing how each is prepared and where it’s sourced. That kind of detail builds trust fast.

From a professional food perspective, consistency matters more than flash. According to data from the German Hotel and Restaurant Association, repeat customers account for over 60% of restaurant revenue in neighborhood dining spots. Poseidon clearly understands this. Dishes taste the same whether you’re there on a quiet Tuesday or a packed Saturday night. That doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from standardized kitchen processes, experienced cooks, and a clear focus on quality control, especially with seafood, where freshness is non-negotiable.

The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with warm lighting and simple décor that doesn’t distract from the food or conversation. It’s the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name, and newcomers are treated just as comfortably. Reviews often mention the friendly service, and that lines up with my experience. Staff members are attentive without hovering, and they’re happy to make recommendations if you’re unsure. One server once suggested a house white wine that paired perfectly with grilled octopus, and it was spot on.

Location-wise, being in Neuhausen-Nymphenburg makes Poseidon easy to reach, whether you’re local or visiting Munich. The area attracts a mix of families, professionals, and students, which explains the diverse crowd you’ll see inside. Accessibility matters too, and this spot benefits from nearby public transport, something diners increasingly factor into their restaurant choices, according to recent urban dining studies published by European hospitality groups.

What I appreciate most is that Poseidon doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s not chasing trends or reinventing Greek food. Instead, it focuses on doing the classics well, using reliable suppliers and time-tested recipes. Culinary experts often emphasize that traditional cuisines thrive when chefs respect original techniques, and you can taste that respect here. Still, like any long-running restaurant, there are limits. The menu doesn’t change dramatically, so if you’re craving experimental flavors, this might not be your spot. But if you want dependable, flavorful Greek dishes in a relaxed setting, it delivers.

Over time, Poseidon has built a solid reputation in Munich’s dining scene, not through hype, but through everyday meals done right. That’s probably why so many reviews mention returning again and again. In an industry where trends come and go, there’s something reassuring about a restaurant that knows its strengths and sticks to them.

  • Really good Greek food place. Nice dishes and variety of food to eat. Ambiance is nice like an old drinks parlour.

  • The best Greek restaurant I have ever visited. Greated by a friendly face, the owner brings about uzo to start the night. The food is traditional and on point, everything they brought to the table, mousaka, salads perfectly seasoned, grilled sardines, taramas, roasted lamb with many variations and the list goes on. Sorry no pics, too busy eating . The meal was finished by another uzo on the house. Just perfect.

  • Very nice greek restaurant! The service was absolutely amazing, they brought us free shot of ouzo before the meal, which is very thoughtful and things like this make a difference! The food was tasty, fairly priced. We ordered gyros for kids and also the normal portion and if you are not starving, the kids portion was actually enough considering you get a salad as an addition to the food.

  • Poseidon leonrod is the PLACE TO BE! Invest your money in super food and not savings by Sparkasse! We are two friends, 44 years old / young, had an incredible dinner with wine on 25.03.2025. I had dorado fish von Grill with vegetables and he had a gorgeous huge musaka. We came from the food (wir sind vom Food beide beim Tisch gekommen). Incredible service by the waiters, they are fast, notice many things and place people in the right places. music is not loud and the light is not too dark or too bright, optimal. In case you order too much or can't eat all, the waiter offers to pack your food and take with you. Very nice positive active waiter, young man, light brown hair Poseidon leonrod is the PLACE TO BE! Invest your money in super food and not savings by Sparkasse!

  • The food is tasty and authentic. Especially the gyros. Staff is friendly and helpful! Outdoor seating is available and payment by card is possible. Overall - a nice place to have decent greek food if you are staying in one of the nearby hotels.

  • I can’t believe how incredible our night was here! We came as a small group to celebrate a birthday, and we were able to try a variety of amazing dishes. First off, the food was absolutely fantastic, and the portions were more than generous. We ordered a mix of warm and cold mezze plates, as well as a meat platter for two, and everything was full of flavor. But what really made this place unforgettable was our outstanding waiter. He had such a warm, welcoming personality and truly made our experience special. Not only did he surprise us with complimentary ouzo shots, but he also took such great care of us throughout the evening. We all felt completely at home the entire night. We can't thank him enough for making our celebration so memorable! Also thanks for the greek wine

  • Fun place sat down and had an Aperol Spritz in minutes along with a complimentary shot of ouzo and bread basket. A farmer’s salad (typical Greek salad) arrived shortly after ordering followed by the main event - excellent lamb chops. I asked for fries instead of rice and they were great too. My only complaint is that I would have liked a touch more garlic in the tzatziki but that probably wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste!
